27th of Febuary…..
….was the Trip to the Zoo organized by Maxar’s Elne!!! It was meant to be an interaction session between our Hall residents and the children from our beneficiary, SCAS (Spastic Children’s Association of Singapore). Everyone met at the zoo and the children arrived at approximately 1pm. The children were all paired up with a volunteer and proceeded to KFC for lunch and to get to know the children better. The volunteers all paid close attention to the child in their charge and the staff from SCAS were always nearby to lend a helping hand or to advise us on the individual child’s character.
- All anxious and excited about meeting their assigned kids! =)
- ….when everyone was just getting to know each other and settling down for a yummy-licious lunch at KFC! xD
- ….the children soon got more comfortable around their older “brothers and sisters”….and Uncle Brian! HAHA
- Looks like the meal at KFC brought the volunteers and children closer together! A good start at the beginning of an interesting trip!
- B-B-Brian was our sort of “tour guide” for the day, helping Elne lead the group and keep track of time as everyone else had their hands full, as you can see! =)
- Half-way through the trip, we stopped for a toliet-cum-rest break at none other than the Rainforest Kidzworld! Sad to say the incubator and chicks from our childhood were no longer there, but it has been replaced with a huge water playground! The children didn’t get a chance to play this time, but a few energetic ones played on the dry playground =) Maybe next time!
- Although some of the children came with prams, they were too excited to be pushed around and decided to walk on their own instead. A big THANK YOU goes out to the logistics and medic people who had to help carry the bags and push the empty prams!
- Our volunteers taking a hard-earned break whilst the children wait for their bus =D
- We were worn out, but had a satisfying and unforgettable experience!
- Even at the end of a tiring day, the volunteers mustered the energy to entertain the kids
At the end of the day, even though the volunteers and Maxar committee members were worn out, it was pretty sad parting with the kids and saying goodbye at the zoo…. Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a really memorable time together =)
To the Hall 8 Volunteers, thanks a million for coming along on the zoo trip with us, we hope u had a super duper great time like we did!
Last but not least, to the Staff and Children from SCAS, thank you for participating and allowing us to have such a fun time!!! =)
