MAXAR would like to thank the good people of NTU hall 11, 10, 9 and 8 for lending their generous support to our canvassing event. We are proud to announce that we have hit our canvassing target! The proceeds will go a long way in helping the children of SCAS (Spastic Children Association of Singapore).
What better way to start the recess week than to see 100 lively NTU students gathered together to bring a day’s worth of fun, laughter and enjoyment to the children of the Spastic Children Association of Singapore (SCAS)? Also MAXAR’s first event for 2011/2012, Superheroes and Cartoons At SCAS is a joint event between Special Project Committee MAXAR and SCAS. The aim of the event was to bring about interaction, through a carnival setting, between the children of SCAS and student volunteers of NTU. And from there, promote awareness and understanding about cerebral palsy in Singapore.
Elaborate costumes and decorations were put together to bring the theme, Superheroes and Cartoons, to life. For that day, SCAS was transformed into a fantasy world. Cartoon characters like the Smurf, Fred Flinstone and superheroes like WonderWoman were roaming SACS cracking up the volunteers and children of SCAS! The volunteers demonstrated sincere efforts and persistence in engaging the children. Together, they made the place bustle with activity.
The skit at the beginning of the event illustrated the values of honesty and friendship in an amusing and captivating way. In the skit, Jack, a kindergarden boy went through time travel with the help of a superhero chicken to correct the mistakes he had previously committed. That included returning a lost wallet and standing up against bullies. Various game booths were also set up for the
entertainment of the children. One of the highlights of the carnival was the photobooth where the children got to take wacky pictures using instant print photos with props together with volunteers as well as the cartoon characters. Gratitude to Epson Printers, the children and volunteers could take pictures home as a memento for this fun filled event. Another eye catching piece of the carnival was the Uncle Ringo inflatable castle where children and volunteers alike had a jolly great time in.
At the end of the day, organisers and volunteers alike were tired out by the seemingly everlasting energy the children possessed. I believe I represent all volunteers to say that seeing the joy in the children and the approving smiles of parents and teachers warms the heart. Like all acts of giving, our personal takeaways far exceed what the children received.
MAXAR would also like to thank the volunteers and the following sponsors of this hearty event:
Uncle Ringo
- For sponsoring us the inflatable despite the short notice, it was one of the highlight for our carnival that made our carnival a success. Other than that, we also get the candy floss station which is also well liked by the kids and volunteers . In addition, Uncle Ringo also has a wide variety of carnival products for rent such as game stalls, rides, kiddie rides and side shows. Hence, we would like to recommend Uncle Ringo to other clubs and society in NTU for their good responsiveness and efficiency. We had great fun working with them and just a side note, it is better to call Uncle Ringo first before emailing to them.
Espon Printers
- For sponsoring us the use of the Espon PM235 for our instant picture print booth. Thanks to Epson Printes, the kids and volunteers can take pictures home for memento of this fun filled event. Other than that, we would like to express our gratitude to Espon Printers for its swift and spontaneous replies to help our event despite the short notice.
Tat Hui Pted Ltd
-For sponsoring us Koka instant cup Noodles as part of our goodie bag items despite the short notice. We would like to thank them for their prompt email replies and also their support for making this carnival for the children at SCAS a success. Just to mention, Tat Hui Pted Ltd is actually the parent company of a few global brands namely Koka, Sanwa and Yoodles which are distributed globally in countries such as Europe, North America and the Middle East. They have a long history since 1986 and is one of the frontiers in the healthy instant Noodle Revolution. Through extensive R & D, they have produced healthier choice of instant noodles such as the ones with no MSG added. In addition, they are environmental conscious and take initiatives in using recycled materials for their packaging. Now I believe, we know more about the pervasiveness of Koka ‘s parent company and that Koka is not just a home brand in Singapore.
Treasure8 is an innovative and educational event that not only attempts to raise funds for our beneficiary but also to bring about greater awareness of our beneficiary to the general public and the participants themselves.
It presents itself as a 2 day island-wide fundraising race during the June holidays, adapted from successful reality shows like Oprah’s Big Give and The Apprentice.
Despite it being such a revolutionary concept, it does have a reputable 3 years of history with $15,000 raised in each year. We believe that we can build on the momentum from prior years to reach out to a larger number of people for greater awareness for our beneficiary and in the process, garnering more funds for our beneficiary.
On top of the race, there will be a flea market at ILUMA!
If you are interested in participating in the race/volunteering at ILUMA/setting up a stall during the flea, do drop us an email at ntumaxar@gmail.com!
Thank you all for being part of MAXAR’s first interaction event of 2011! Everyone went the extra mile to make the children enjoy the day at Sengkang Riverside Park. The day started off with a bang as everyone started gearing up for the event. Even the children from SCAS were psyched up for the day’s activities to begin. Smiles were all around as children were given their very own kite and decorating materials which were soon seen flying all over the park. Everyone was frantically running around trying to get their masterpieces up in the air!
The masterpieces were up in no time, and the sight of the kites bringing color to the park made some passerbys stop in their tracks to admire them. With all the activities going on, it was no wonder stomachs were rumbling as lunchtime approached. Volunteers ensured that the children were being looked after, before settling down for their own meals. The dedication from each individual during the interaction was seen throughout the event, and the day soon came to a close. However, even the rain could not wipe the smiles off everyone that day.
Here is a big thankyou shoutout to everyone who made the day such a roaring success, and MAXAR looks forward to organizing more of such events! For more information, please visit our facebook page for any updates! In the meantime, here are some pictures to feast your eyes upon! For those who were there, these were the beautiful memories created, and for those who were not there, you should come the next time round!
